ADHD

This research paper is probably the first paper I have been excited to write about. (Now that I finally figured out a topic that I care about!) I don’t really have much experience in writing a research paper, and the experience I would have is from 7-8 years ago, so I will be very rusty while writing the paper. I picked a topic that I feel very passionate about. I use to work at a place that worked with people with mental and physical disabilities. I didn’t work directly with the clients but I worked in the office so I got to know all of them. Some of the kids had attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). I started looking at the opposing viewpoints database and found a topic about should children be taking Adderall for ADHD. When I think about it, I remember people in high school abusing it and it was almost like a form of speed. I thought about that when I read that viewpoint and it made me realize how much a child shouldn’t be taking this medication. It is scary to think about all of the side effects this medication has and a child doesn’t know the different. Some of the side effects are loss of appetite, insomnia, dry mouth, temporary increase blood pressure, emotional changes, nausea, increased heart rate, dizziness or fainting, and slowing the growth in children. There have also been reports of death. Some people become addicted to it. I read that the more you take this the more your body become immune to it and you have to start taking more and more. I am very excited to start doing more research on this topic and writing my paper.
